Around 80 km from Budapest I spent my afternoon at a very cool place called Kis Gerecse, an old abandoned quarry (100 years +) definitely a hidden gem! Small but beautiful, this climbing spot has some great rock, overhangs, crimps, technical climbs, something for every one and a stunning place to hike and camp. There are a few crags around Budapest but this one is really special.
What an amazing afternoon and great experience to climb there. Just watch out for the huge stinging nettles (classic me I had a minor incident involving landing in them ouch! )
The afternoon was followed by and even more interesting evening spent looking for a party at a beautiful house perched on the side of a hill in the middle of the forest. With 50% sherri being passed around, the circus style BBQ started at 1 in the morning. The hillarity continued as I was reminded many times during the evening and throughout my trip "This is the Hungarian way". So much fun, such amazing hospitality with a massive shout out going to András Földes for being such a great host. I can't wait to head back there next time I'm in Budapest. Too much nice !
